Kahawa Estate Coffee

Kahawa Estate are dedicated to providing their customers with premium quality single origin coffee. From growing the coffee plants to the processing and roasting of the beans, everything is done on the family farm in the Byron Bay hinterland.

The family established Kahawa Estate Coffee plantation in 2004. To reflect their African heritage, they chose the name Kahawa, meaning coffee, from the Swahili language of eastern Africa.

Located on the Alstonville Plateau in the Byron Bay hinterland, they purchased the former avocado plantation in 2003 and then in 2004 planted 8000 seedlings using the K7 variety of Coffea arabica that originated in Kenya. Their first harvest was in 2007.

In December 2008, they expanded with a second planting of 3000 trees, and in 2009 they began roasting their own beans. They now have their own roastery on site. Their products can be found in selected retail outlets and on their online store, as well as at festivals and local food markets.

Kahawa Estate take pride in managing the entire process of their coffee production from tending the trees to packaging the beans for distribution. Their dedication and efforts have been recognised with medals awarded each year since 2010 at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show and the Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards.
